Some fundamental questions need to be asked

I really don't remember my teachers having told me the fundamental difference between animals and plants. For many years, I thought it was locomotion. Then I read a classic book on biology to know that it is the ability to synthesize food. Plants can; animals can't. Since animals cannot make their own food, then need to search for food. Hence they need locomote.

Thereafter I started thinking, whats the fundamental difference between human beings and all other animals. Brain. No. Many animals have brains; brains cannot be (sure, we have an evolved brain). I further read. Hands. Yes, dexterous hands. If human beings had brains but no dexterous hands to execute what the brain ordered, we would have never made progress. Don't think there is any other animal which has such dexterous hands. Even if chimpanzees are as smart as we human beings, they still haven't progressed or wouldn't. Because they don't have hands as skillful as ours.

Also, how about self-awareness. Perhaps, we are the only animals which are self-aware.

Some fundamental questions need to be asked.

Or may be its greed ... Human beings always want more than what they need ... hence the need for dextrous hands to grab whats not theirs and self awareness that comes from the ego of having what others dont ...

does it qualify ??

but i have some doubts regarding self awareness. how can anyone practically prove that animals lack any sort of self awareness ??

there seem to be some animals which show homesexual tendency.

self-awareness - this can be deducted only from behavior. sure, we cannot prove this.

thanks
