Fifteen things before I die - Revisited

These were my fifteen things to do before I died. Four years ago. Before I went to ISB. Wanted to revisit. Let me see what has changed.

1. Get an MBA degree - DONE
2. Travel to at least 10 exotic locations in the world - Have traveled. Ok. But nowhere near this aspiration. Still on.
3. Own a Merc - Merc is no longer aspirational.
4. Become CEO of a Bank - Maybe not. Would like to retire when I get my targeted wealth (pretty soon) and chase things that I can do along with my spouse.
5. Write a book - Yes. Sure. Maybe, no one will read. But we do many things to please ourselves.
6. Challenge every assumption/prejudice that I have lived with - Not necessary. In fact, stupid. I am my opinions and assumptions. And prejudices. Why would I want to be something else.
7. Be healthy and fit - Absolutely. Work on this almost every day.
8. Try all types of food - Difficult. Somethings just don't go in.
9. Learn to Swim - Give up. Scared of water. Don't know 'why'. 'How' is a later question.
10. Complete reading a quarter of books from my “to read” list - Attention span has come down. Fine with research reports. Books are just an elaboration of what can be said in one-tenth. Nine-tenth is the writer's ego.
11. Interview Ramgopal Verma. Understand “how” he thinks - I still like him. But figured out he is human too.
12. Smoke a Cuban Cigar once - Yet to try.
13. Contribute directly to poverty alleviation and fund home
for the aged - Contribution is best done and has the highest impact if done at as high a level as possible. Will wait before I start.
14. Own a Bungalow - Soon.
15. _________________. Needs patience, which is only thinning down.

Not much progress on many things. Yet, things have changed. Life, indeed!

This list reminded me of my things to do, but in a shorter time span. A year.

i'm a 4/6. Not a bad score i feel.
1) Change in mail id - if not to the world, yes in the local network domain.

2) Travel by helicopter - Did Para gliding in mahabaleshwar.

3) Two holidays for the year - Going for the second one to goa this weekend. Just got my holiday approved today. A short one though.

4) Play Cricket match in Whites - Was not able to.

5) Manage my personal accounts - Have restarted it once again.

6) Learn Excel Macro - Yes, this ranks as the best i have done this year. And i did it the last. Knew i could pick it up fast and happy i, could in this new role.

Have a limited audience to whom i update this. However, following your blog, over the last two months - Chose to comment here.

All the best to your fifteen. But do they reduce or get replaced. i see quite a few in the ' not want to do' list.

Hey Vijay,

Good Luck with all the wishes!

Regarding the Merc, I always used to think that you would not want it down the line. [ Somehow felt it from your blogs :)]

On Charity -- I decide each year, i would do charity after my annual income crosses X amount, and for some reason that elusive X keeps on moving North!

Book - Please write the book. i will be the first to buy it. Been reading your blog from eternity for free -:)

Thanks for the wondeful blogs. Keep blogging. God bless you [ i am still afraid of God!]
