Freakonomics, Haiti, and Milton

Here is an insightful excerpt from Freakonomics blog
 .................................................................................................
One problem faced by a society that is always working toward solutions to various problems is that certain solutions, however effective, may go unused because they cannot be commodified.

Consider obesity. True, billions of dollars have been made selling all sorts of diet and exercise and weight-loss products, but perhaps the best solution is the free one: eat a bit less and a bit better and take a good 30-minute walk every day. But it’s hard to make money pushing that idea.

...................................................................................................

The solution that is free, in this case, is effective only when practised all life. But, I guess, when it comes to slimming down, people want results as of yesterday.

*
Different numbers are being reported about how many people died in Haiti. History never remembers common people; but when a mass tragedy like this strikes, some are not even amongst those that existed.

*
Human mind is a genius. Poetry, Architecture, Love, Science; the list can be endless. It is a devil as well. Murder, depression, fraud, the list can again be endless.

It can conjure something that never was as much as it can conceive that will once be.

PS:
-Cannot but quote Milton again - Mind is its own place, and in itself, it can make heaven of Hell and hell of Heaven
-And this is one of the devilish kind.
